I am an assistant manager for a small chain store in the upper Midwest. When I stepped up into management I had to relocate to another store which is an hour commute. Lowes is currently building a store in the city I used to work in which is considerably closer to my home. I am curious to know if Lowes moves their management staff around quite a bit or if they are allowed to stay put if they want without fear of wage freezes etc.. I would also like to know what requirements Lowes has for someone to be considered for a management position, and any other feedback on this topic.

Lowe's is growing very rapidly. If you want to move up within the company, relocating stores is likely. Usually it will be within the same area. The further up the chain you go, the further you may be asked to move.

I hate Lowe's. They lied to me to get me to quit my job and work for them. Then they sprang all kinds of stuff on me after I got there. I was forced to resign after just a week, and now I am unemployed!

For the full story, see my thread, "Do not go and work for Lowe's" on the Sears forum.

If you are happy at all where you are, wait for another opportunity.
