Hi Gang,
It has been over a year since I left Sears. The department I worked in has been very short handed lately and I offered to come back part-time for the summer. The department manager was in favor of it as was the DM. I left on good terms and signed the paperwork as needed. The store manager, who came from outside the company would have none of it, he makes all department heads get his approval on any hiring. Another former employee also offered to come back part time, he again blocked that.
Is this a new company policy or the case of a power hungry manager who doesn't trust anyone with experience?

I'd say it is more of the latter. As long as you have advance notice and followed through with seperation, you should still be on a re-hire status...
The new philosophy at Sears Holdings to to get rid of anyone with previous experience and knowledge, in favor of kids who don't know much of anything about anything...

Along with rehires I noticed alot of managers/coaches being promoted who only have 2-3 years with Sears tops. I do believe that crew indeed wants to purge SHLD of any Sears Roebuck personel.

MRS DD WHAT CAME UP WHEN YOU APPLIED? Let me know I may do the same just to see if the "TERMINATED" status on my benefit sight is just the way it is worded for anyone that left.

Thank you for applying to Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Our records indicate that you previously worked for Sears or one of its subsidiary companies. Based on the reason your previous employment was terminated, you are not eligible to be considered for re-employment with Sears. If you feel this decision was made in error, please contact Sears Associate Services at 1-888-88Sears. Thank you. |
this is what I and MrDD get right after we have submitted our name and ss#

The new "management" wants to surround themselves with inexperience so they can feel more intelligent, because they are idiots in the first place and they can have someone else to blame for their eventual failures.
Any good manager knows that the better your people are the easier your job is and you get better results. Notice I said "any good manager". Case closed.

The best rehire policy I know of is the WAYT policy.. To translate that means "What Are You Thinking"?

dinosore has it right-they need inexperience at the holding company. They need the niave. It also goes to show you that the ESL crew has no serious plans for Sears. He only wants the Sears names which he has already patented and licensed out.A true Sears Kmart merger is too much for ESL to handle since retailing is beyond the scope and range of their abilities.
Not only was MrsDD blacklisted by Alan 'the wheelman' Lacy and friends it might very well been done at the behest of the ESL crew, especially since they rely on stock price. So a stock holder/employee with knowledge of how things are ACTUALLY working might not bode well.
How insecure can SHLD management really be?Their crap must be really weak.

The store manager has to do the final interview and sign off on all hires now.

I Too had this problem.
about a year ago i had to quit sears due to my child's mental disabilities and problems she was having. I informed my supervisor in charge about it. Recently i went to kmart to apply online. And i got thesame thing too. I quit i didnt get terminated. is there a possiblility of having a case against them. or do they do that to all past employees that try and apply again.?

New hires go through a "culture interview" with the Store Coach irregardless of the position they are applying for. I have overheard them, just a bunch of rah-rah about the Power of One and the typical bullshit ALLWIND communicates to the masses.
Ironically though, it seems like people even more stupid and unqualified are being hired, as opposed to the one interview process.

If you have medical documentation (doctor visit receipts, insurance billings, etc.), get yourself a lawyer or at least get a free legal consultation -- they're out there, usually through a county or city organization, or through a TV/radio station's community-service type thing (Ask the Lawyer). Pretty sure this could fall somehow under the FMLA.
Anyone in a similar situation should probably do something like put in a leave under the FMLA, then come back and work part time under doctor's recommendation, then after a few weeks have doctor give reasons for your full time to be spent in the care of the other person, then do an official quit/resignation. The medical documentation means that Sears would have less of a reason to put you as "quit" or "terminated", for fear of official lawsuit.
