For what it's worth. It only took 5 years to figure out someone should answer the damn phone. Doh!

If you're so much as in the hub on any business you wind up answering the phone while someone ie the HR lead checks on it for you. There is just too much going on and sooner or later someone will realize they'll have to give a raise to someone like the HR lead who does all the work.

Our HR lead never left. We tried - for a very short period - to do without an office person. It failed miserably. Only took a few weeks of really pissed off customers for everyone in our store to realize the position is just too important.

I still think after all this time that it was the mistake that started the snowball. SHLD just never understood the weight that the hub carried. Then the HR. I was told never again another hub--do you guys think its possible reinstate the hub office?

Of course, keep in mind that someone would have to take ownership of that mistake...Sears was different & carried larger responsibilities. One could not get rid of it & expect it to run like Walmart--product size/variety/service makes it a necessity.

I think it was too much for HR. It made it impossible to handle things correctly.

I think it was the worst mistake right off the bat to make. I don't think that there was ever a real recovery. I did not work in that area, but I certainly felt the impact for a few years. I don't believe that things are better for us nor the customer.

Am I wrong?

HR Lead. What a joke. Ours doesn't answer is own HR phone much less the phone in the hub office. It's not my job he says. Go to him with a HR problem and he says to call 88 Sears. The only thing he does is payroll. Thank God, he can do that or otherwise no need for him to come to work.

The Operations Mgr is totaly responsible for the HR Department and the Hub Office. If he is a weak bastard so are his employees and at my store that applies.

No kidding, the managers/leads deal with erecruiting and the job offer, and making copies of IDs, Socials, the HR doesn't do SHIT.

We're VERY fortunate at our store. The woman in charge of HR has been with the company for many many years. She is fantastic! If she doesn't know an answer to something, she will let you know as soon as she finds out. She knows more about how the store operates than anyone else. She is always helpful, and really is concerned about everyone. I've known her almost 20 years, and can't say enough good things about her. Very professional, very smart, etc. Thumbs Up

I'm with pj on this one ... our HR Lead knows everyone by first and last name.. is always polite.. no matter how much she gets yelled at .. has a good word to say about everyone and knows everything there is to know about Sears and how it's run.. If she doesn't know... she'll find out almost immediately.

I do feel bad for the stores out there that have had bad HR experience Doh!

It was about 50-50 at the Kmarts I was at. On the other end of the 50% was the biggest gossips in the store, especially when it came to personal matters or people getting written up. One employee's personal business was spread around once, and they proved it by having someone "plant" an idea (that wasn't true to begin with) only with the HR person, to end up finding out it was spread all around the store in less than one day. Employee escalated the matter to HQ, and much hubbub occurred, including the HR person getting a formal documentation and being moved to a lower volume store --- with a new drive of 30 miles each way. We all had a good laugh about that, and that story made its way around from the store manager themself.

We still have our HR lead and four others on the HUB/office staff too. So, we usually have two on duty on a given day, save for Sunday. One answers phones, one does money things.

Our HR lead is good, but overworked, I think.
