|
|
|
For all you HE associates who do not know, my BC manager just showed this to me today. The new rates will be as follows (I believe they start this sunday[6/29]):
120hz TVs are no longer 5%, they will drop down to the 'Core' category. "As new TVs come out later in the year with new innovative features they will be added to the Advanced Category"
All Camcorders will drop to 1% except for the HD camcorders
All SLR Cameras will move from the 5% category to the 9% Category.
All Bluerays, HTIB and High-End Audio Components will be 5%.
Installation,accessorys,MRAs/SPPs, and of course MPAs will be 9%
As an added bonus the week of 6/29-7/5 there will be an extra 2% spiff on ALL LCD TVs. (I really do like selling plasmas though, but seems the industry is trying to do away with them...)
That's all I got so far

query: why do you prefer selling plasmas?
IMO they operate 'hotter' .. eating more power and causing more heat gain on my A/C, and are not as bright.

They are an easier sell in my opinion. They are cheaper, produce more natural colors. They last just as long, and have no burn in, little glare and have a much faster response time and refresh rate (480hz)

that part makes sense
from what I read, Sony dropped them entirely as LCDs have become more available/competeitive
I bought an out-of-box- clearance Sony Bravia 40" last summer and have been very happy with it... personally, I waited until the LCDs got more reasonably priced before I got one... I never liked the bad pixels issue and heat generated by plasmas.... but I'm a Fla native and things that generate more heat are BAD. LOL.

So how do you think these changes will affect your total compensation? I'm sure in their neverending concern for the welfare of employees they are making sure the salesperson gets a bigger slice of the pie....

great link Nofs -

| Because LCDs use florescent backlighting to produce images, they require substantially less power to operate than plasma TVs do. LCD displays consume about half the power that plasma displays consume. |
that was a driving factor in my personal decision.

Shake, you sound like every unlearned customer that walks into HE. THe new plasmas last LONGER than current LCD, 40k hours longer, and burn in is a thing of the past, even if it does occurr, it can be erased. Also, the new Panny plasmas use no more power than comprable lcd's.

Oh well, I'm sorry if I haven't worked in electronics in over a year. I'm a bit rusty.
Burn-in is a thing of the past? ....maybe they have burn-in reduction, right? They do that white out burn in process that I've seen on some of the tvs?

So the plasma's have a 100k hour bulb life?

Problem here is most HE associates are as "unlearned" as the customers! Not really their fault because training is minimal and most time is spent on cleaning, restocking or resetting, which is endless. However they act as if they know the product and mislead the customers. I have always found it best to check my facts if I'm not sure.
So Rick, to save you some time I'll correct your inaccurate facts. Plasma TV's still have burn in however it has been minimized by image shift. If you "erase" burn in you decrease the life of the set. And the power consumption of the "Panny" 42" 80U is 573 watts. The 40" Samsung 530 LCD is 200 watts. Thats almost 3 times the power consumption which is hardly comparable!

I'm pretty sure I knew quite enough to be dangerous - granted I haven't worked there in a while.
I didn't mention that yes, LCDs use alot less power to operate.
